Alexia Altouva is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre Studies in the University of Athens. She is a graduate of the same Department where she acquired a Ph.d. with honors in 2008. The dissertation entitled: The phenomenon of the female celebrities' system in Greece during the 19th centurywas funded by the Research Grants Program: Heraclitus and has been edited in 2014 by Herodotos Editions.
Since 2012 she is part of the human resources of Department of Theatre Studies in the University of Athens where she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, among which the course of “Methodology of Research and Editing” (akad. year 2017-18).
She also gave courses on the History of Acting in the Department of Theatre Studies at the University of Peloponnese (akad. year 2008-09) and has been for many years (2001-today), a scientific associate and assistant for organizing a series of research projects implemented with co-financing from the European Social Fund and national resources.
Her scientific interests focus on the fields of History and Theory of Acting, History of Modern Greek theatre in 19th and 20th centuries, Modern Greek Actors: History and biography. She has also participated in several Scientific Meetings and Conferences in Greece and abroad. Articles have been published in scientific magazines and omnibus volumes.
Participation in Research Projects (indicative catalogue)
2012-2015: Participation to the research project entitled: “Cultural transfer and “national character” in nineteenth century Greek periodicals (Chryssalis)”, under the supervision of Professor Anna Tabaki, (funded by the program “Thales”),being a member of the 2nd research group which focuses on “The reception of theatre genres (authors, ideological and aesthetic currents, drama theory): poetic theatre, prose theatre and music theatre”, under the supervision of Professor Chr. Stamatopoulou-Vasilakou.
2016-today: Coordinator of the project entitled: “Undergraduate Students’ Practice” implemented by the Department of Theatre Studies in the University of Athens and Scientific Associate and Assistant in the same program during the period (2001-2008).
2006-2007: Scientific assistant in the research project entitled: "Semele: ancient theatre database”, funded by the research program Pythagoras II and implemented by the Department of Theatre Studies in the University of Athens.
2004-2007: Scientific assistant in the research project entitled: "Theatre research and documentation workshop: Greek theatrical bibliography (1900-2005), Sources and scientific studies”, funded by the research program Pythagoras I, implemented by the Department of Theatre Studies in the University of Athens.
